Intermittent heavy rains are likely over Mumbai and suburbs between 13th and 16th July. This will be the second piercing rainy spell of the first fortnight of July. Out of these days, the sharpest showers are likely on the 15th July. Moderate spells are likely even thereafter and expected to ease out after 20th July.
June rains were a slight dampener for Mumbai and the total fell short of normal by over 100mm. Courtesy century showers on three consecutive days between 04th and 6th July, this shortfall has been covered and the cumulative seasonal rainfall is 30% in excess so far. The month of July seems to be in a hurry to achieve its monthly normal. Already 725mm of rain has been recorded against the monthly average of 840mm.
The fresh surge of southwesterly winds is going to throng Konkan coast and lash Mumbai and suburbs till mid-week. The heavy downpour can make commuting difficult and also result in waterlogging at few places. Possibly the activity will become more intense during evening and night and have short breaks in the daytime.
