Good rain and thundershower activities are going on along theWest Coast of India especially in parts of Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.And since the last 48 hours, the intensity of these weather activities has increased in Karnataka and Kerala.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday,Karwarin Karnataka recorded very heavy rain to the tune of 89 mm, followed byShirali75 mm,Mangaluru72 mm, Honnavar 55 mm, Kozhikode 48 mm,Thrissur36 mm, Kannur 32 mm,Kochi23 mm, Kottayam 20 mm, Karipur 17 mm, Punalur 8 mm, Trivandrum 7 mm and Palakkad 5 mm.
Moreover, in the wake of these rains, Karnataka’s rain deficiency has come under the normal category. As of June 13,Karnatakais rain deficient by 15 percent andKeralaby 29 percent.
Now rainfall activities are expected to continue with moderate to heavy intensity in parts of Coastal Karnataka. However, in the next 24 hours, rain may decrease slightly in parts of Kerala. But again, a freshMonsoonsurge will increase rainfall activity in Kerala.
Although the interior parts ofTamil Naduwill not receive enough rains, scattered light rains with few moderate spells may continue in rest parts of the south peninsula. In fact, seeing the intensity of rains now we expectSouthwest Monsoonwill cover entireKeralaand parts of CoastalKarnatakaanytime soon.
The reason for all the above weather conditions will be attributed to an active offshore trough extending from Karnataka coast to Kerala. Moreover, westward-movingCyclone Vayuand strong winds from the southwest direction are enhancing these rainfall activities.
