As predicted by Skymet Weather, Mumbai rains have finally picked up pace, with Colaba Observatory recorded 44 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.
Weathermen has already forecast that Mumbai Monsoon is all to revive today onward. Thus we expect these rains to increase further gradually as we progress through the day. Heavy to heavy rains are likely to lash Mumbai till June 29.
We can expect moderate to heavy rains by today evening, with rains intensifying on June 28 and heavy to very heavy rains are likely. Rain intensity would peak on June 29. By June 30, rains would start receding but light to moderate rains would continue.
These rains can be attributed to the fresh surge of Monsoon on account of active off-shore trough along the West Coast and a cyclonic circulation marked over east-central Arabian Sea off Maharashtra coast.
In fact, these Monsoon rains are now here to stay. Rains would reduce June 30 onward but on and off rains would continue till July 3-4. These rains would once again pick up pace thereafter, as a low pressure area which is yet to form over east-central Bay of Bengal would move inland towards Maharashtra.
Thus, we would once again expect some moderate to heavy rains over Mumbai and nearby areas.
Although the city remain pitch dry till the arrival of Monsoon, but with the beginning of June, Mumbai is exposed to a daunting target of 493 mm of rain. So far, Colaba observatory in Mumbai has recorded 178.8 mm, while Santa Cruz Observatory has observed 183.6 mm.
Although weathermen are expecting around 200 mm of rain in span of next three days but we doubt that Mumbai would be able to hit the target.
