Southwest Monsoon in Mumbai was running late and had not yet made an onset until yesterday. However, the good news is that Southwest Monsoon has arrived over the city of Mumbai with parts of Gujarat also seeing the arrival of Monsoon. The normal onset date for Mumbai is June 10, and it is 15 days late as of now.

After the influence of Cyclone Vayu, the weather in Mumbai became dry and sultry. During the last 24 hours, scattered rains have been seen in many parts of Mumbai and the suburbs. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Colaba recorded 7 mm of rains whereas Santa Cruz saw 1 mm of light rainfall.

As per weathermen at Skymet, with the onset of Monsoon, Mumbai rains will see a gradual increase during the next 24 hours. June 26 onward, scattered rains of light to moderate intensity may be seen. Between June 27 and 28, moderate showers with a few heavy to very heavy spells may also be seen over the city.

Thus, between June 26 and 30, over 200 mm of rains are likely to be seen over Mumbai. However, these showers will not be torrential and heavy in nature, which may disrupt the daily life of people. Nevertheless, water logging in some areas with localized flooding cannot be ruled out during this episode of Monsoon rains.

Weather will become pleasant resulting in drop of temperatures, and sky conditions will remain cloudy and overcast during this time.
