Southwest Monsoon 2018 is likely to complete its withdrawal from the entire country anytime now. This would be the quickest withdrawal of Monsoon in the last few years.

The withdrawal line of Southwest Monsoon is presently passing through Machilipatnam, Kurnool, Gadag, and Vengurla. According to Skymet Weather, conditions are very favourable to retreat from the remaining parts of the country shortly.

Invariably, it takes a month-long time or may be more than that. For instance, 2017 saw late withdrawal of Monsoon around September 27 but the process carried on till October 24. Two years prior to that Monsoon took good 40 days to complete its withdrawal from the country.

Generally, the Monsoon withdrawal extends beyond October 15 and 2018 would be one of the rare occasions when withdrawal will be before October 10.

Retreat of Southwest Monsoon from the country is linked with change in weather conditions in most parts of the country. Central and western parts of the country go quite weather-wise and come under the ambit of the hot weather conditions.

Meanwhile, North India slips into benign weather conditions. As per weathermen, withdrawal by no means indicate no weather activity. Now, rains would be on account of Western Disturbances across Jammu and Kashmir. After north, these Western Disturbance would head eastwards towards Northeast India, bringing rains over the region.

Completion of withdrawal also paves way for the onset of Northeast Monsoon over Southern Peninsula, which would coincidently be simultaneously this season. Weather conditions are already akin to Northeast Monsoon and it is likely to commence as soon as Southwest Monsoon bod adieu to the country.
