June 28, 2018 1:25 PM |

Monsoon in MumbaiAfter recording extremely heavy rainfall during the last weekend, intensity of Mumbai rains had reduced significantly during the last 48 hours. Santa Cruz Observatory recorded mere 2 mm rainfall on Tuesday as well as on Wednesday.

Although rains have reduced but on and off light rains with few moderate spells would continue over Mumbai. Sky conditions would remain cloudy to overcast, with strong winds blowing across the city.

In fact, several parts of the city are already witnessing rain and thundershowers since Thursday morning. Thus, Mumbaikars are likely to enjoy fairly pleasant weather conditions for the next few days.

However, weathermen predict that the break would be a brief one as Monsoon rains are likely to pick up pace with the beginning of July. First day of the July itself would see some moderate spells, which would increase gradually by July 2-3. During this time, the maximum city would once again see moderate to heavy spells.

This revival of rains could be attributed to the off-shore trough running along the West Coast, which at present is not active. It is most likely to get activated again, leading to increase in rainfall activity over Mumbai and nearby areas.

Mumbai has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall for June. Till June 28, Santa Cruz Observatory has recorded 744 mm of rain as compared to the average rainfall of 493 mm. Similarly, Colaba Observatory has recorded 762 mm of rain so far against the monthly mean of 509 mm.
