Monsoon 2018 finally made its onset over Delhi-NCR on Thursday i.e. June 28, 2018. In fact, it was one day prior to its official date. Weather conditions had become favorable for the arrival of Monsoon in the last 48 hours only.

As predicted by Skymet Weather, Delhi received fairly widespread rain and thundershower activity accompanied by lightning strikes during the last 24 hours. In fact, isolated light rain had begun early morning of June 27.

Rains had picked up the pace late Wednesday evening and the pre-Monsoon showers continued throughout the night. Not only Delhi but adjoining regions of Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram also witnessed good rainy spells. These showers also ended the prolonged dry spell as the last spell was recorded on June 9.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Palam and Ridge observatory of Delhi recorded rain to the tune of 33 mm, followed by Narela at 22 mm and Safdarjung 20.4 mm of rains. These rains were not very heavy in nature, though waterlogging was reported in many regions.

With the arrival of rains, the humid weather was replaced by pleasant one, particularly during the early morning and night hours. In wake of this, both the maximum and minimum temperatures had reported a drop.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the easterly winds and the trough which is extending from Northwest Rajasthan to Northwest Bay of Bengal running south of Delhi.

Since Monsoon has now set in over the national capital, conditions would remain favourable for rains to continue over Delhi-NCR for the next three to four days. Rains would arrest the rise in temperatures, and both the day and night temperatures would settle below normal. Thus, the weather will remain comfortable over the city.
