September 5, 2017 5:42 PM |

Patchy rains to continue over Kolkata, West BengalWest Bengal has been witnessing on and off light Monsoon showers for the last many days. As on September 5, West Bengal is marginally rain surplus by 4 percent.

During the past 24 hours, the region only witnessed light Monsoon rains at some places, particularly over Sub Himalayan West Bengal. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Jalpaiguri witnessed light rain of 8.6 mm, Kalingpong 4 mm and Coochbehar also recorded traces of rain.

These scattered showers over Sub Himalayan West Bengal occurred as the eastern end of the axis of Monsoon trough is running along Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. We do not expect any significant weather system to develop over the Bay of Bengal anytime now.

Therefore, Monsoon will remain subdued over many parts of West Bengal. However, Sub Himalayan West Bengal may receive few light to moderate spells during the next two to three days. Meanwhile, weather over Kolkata and Gangetic West Bengal will remain almost dry, however, isolated localized rain activities cannot be ruled out.

These rains will not be enough to increase the rain surplus over West Bengal. In fact, it may reduce the rain surplus of 4 percent in coming days. It is anticipated by Skymet Weather that warm and humid weather conditions will prevail over most parts of the state. The maximum temperatures will be continue to hover in mid 30’s.
