Monsoon 2016 turns deadly claims 56 lives in Bihar, 42 in UP

More than 56 people have been reportedly killed and numerous others were injured in Bihar as heavy to extremely heavy Monsoon rainfall along with lightning strikes lashed the entire region.

The worst affected area is Patna with 5 dead. The death toll is expected to go up as more reports are coming in from other districts. Reports of lightning strikes in Aurangabad district has also claimed four lives, while in Saran district saw one death. Earlier this month, Kerala also reported news of people being killed due to landslides.

"As many as 46 persons were killed and eight injured in the lightning strikes across the state. Two persons have been critically injured following the lightning strikes," said Vyasji, Principal Secretary of Disaster Management, Patna.

Similar is the case with Uttar Pradesh where more than 42 people lost their lives including 9 minors.

As per Skymet Weather, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places over Bihar. Heavy rain and thundershowers in few pockets of Bihar are also expected.

There will be no change in the weather conditions till June 24. After that the intensity of rains will reduce and the weather activities will shift towards central and western Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of squally winds reaching up to 50 kmph gusting at 70 kmph during the next 24 hours in this region.
