True to its nature, Northeast India has been receiving good rainfall for the last many days. Very we will see Southwest Monsoon 2016 entering Northeast India. In fact, there is no clear divide between pre-Monsoon and Monsoon rains in the northeastern states.
At present, there are multiple weather systems affecting weather in this region. An upper air cyclonic circulation can be seen over Assam, Meghalaya and neighboring areas. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northern parts of Bihar and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Moderate southerly/ southwesterly winds are reaching up to Northeast India. Though good rainfall is already going on over several states of Northeast, the rain intensity is likely to pick up pace and during next 24 hours, we can expect heavy to very heavy showers over Tripura and Mizoram area.
Thereafter, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Assam will also start receiving moderate to heavy rainfall activities. By morning hours of June 14, we expect extremely heavy over SHWB, Sikkim. This due to this increased rainfall. Monsoon will advance over Northeast India as well as West Bengal and Sikkim during next 24 to 48 hours.
The low-lying areas of Assam may be inundated as these heavy rains are expected to continue for next few days. Flood-like situation cannot be ruled out. The intensity of rain will reduce by June 16 or 17 over Northeast India but the rain belt will extend up to Bihar, West Bengal and foothills of East Uttar Pradesh.
