During the last 48 hours fairly widespread moderate to heavy rains have been lashing West Bengal. The reason for these heavy rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area that was initially over coastal Odisha and adjoining North Bay of Bengal.
Thereafter this weather system shifted towards Odisha, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal and gave widespread heavy rain on July 2 and 3. Another weather system that gave good rains during that time was a cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya. This system was also giving good rains over sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
But now this low-pressure area has shifted towards westerly direction and presently seen over Bihar and adjoining areas. Also the cyclonic circulation over the Northeast India region has weakened.
Now Skymet Weather expects that the rain belt is likely to shift towards Bihar and Jharkhand and interior Chhattisgarh and the rainfall intensity will gradually decrease over West Bengal.
But for now, good rains will continue for another 24 hours.
