The West Coast of India has been receiving good showers since the last week of May. On and off, very heavy rains have also been observed over the region. At present, the Monsoon surge is most active over the coastal parts of Karnataka.
Here’s a look at the rainfall figures during last 24 hours:
The interiors, mostly north Interior Karnataka, have received patchy rains only. Here we have seen lesser rains as compared to South Interior Karnataka.
Monsoon rains will increase significantly from June 18 onwards. This increase in Monsoon activity could be attributed to the low pressure area coming up over the Arabian Sea. We can expect good rains over the region between June 18 and 20.
Thereafter, the weather system will move northwards, increasing rainfall over northern parts of Karnataka. Strong westerly/ southwesterly winds will bring moderate to heavy showers along the coast. It is the time of the year when the West Coast including Karnataka receives heavy showers almost every day. Therefore, the ongoing Monsoon activity is nothing unusual.
