Monsoon Goa

Goa is one such pocket on the Western Ghats that receive good rains. In the last 48 hours fairly acceptable rain has lashed Goa. The region received 67 mm of rain in last 24 hours, the day before that it received 73 mm of rainfall.

Goa is one of the rainiest pockets in the country during the Southwest Monsoon. Heavy rainfall occurs during the Monsoon over Western Ghats that includes Goa and along with coastal Karnataka.

The average rainfall figures of the Goa’s capital Panaji stands firm at 2600 mm. But within the state itself huge variation in rainfall figures can be seen. For instance, in last 24 hours Margaon received no rain and in comparison, few places have received triple-digit rainfall.

Mormugao received 105.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours whereas Dabolim received 111 mm of rainfall. Quepem and Sanguem received moderate showers of 70 mm.

Keeping the rainfall figures in mind there are some locations that have already crossed 2000 mm mark of rainfall. And the startling fact is Monsoon has not even reached its half way mark.

Mormugao is at 2300 mm of rainfall from June 1, Dabolim has received 2049 mm rainfall, Sanquelim is at 2044 mm of rainfall and Pernem has received 2169 mm of rainfall.

In the last 10 days of July good rain is expected over Goa. There are chances of heavy showers in the next 3-4 days. During these rains, the region comfortably sits at a temperature of around 20°C. The minimums are recorded in the lower 20s whereas maximums hardly cross the upper 20s.

Cloudy to overcast sky usually persists over the region with strong winds flowing over it.
