Monsoon 2016: Good rains in sight for Chhattisgarh

August 3, 2016 6:10 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Monsoon this year has been brilliant over India especially over Central region. But Chhattisgarh is one state in the region which is running with 5% below normal rainfall.

During last 24 hours light to moderate rain has occurred over many districts of Chhattisgarh like Ambikapur 29 mm, Rajnandgaon 32 mm, Pendra 9 mm, Jagdalpur 4 mm and Bilaspur received 15 mm.

But rainfall figures are expected to rise as a low pressure area is seen over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha and West Bengal coast. This weather system is expected to move in a westerly direction. Due to this rain intensity will increase over Central India, particularly over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

So, we can expect fairly widespread moderate to heavy shower during next 2-3 days. One or two places may even get very heavy rains. This weather system will affect North Chhattisgarh such as Ambikapur, Raigarh, Koriya, Bilaspur and Balod.

However light to moderate rains is expected over South Chhattisgarh districts like Bijapur, Bastar, Dantewada, Sukma and Kanker.

During the next 3-4 days, the rain deficiency which is at 5% is expected to reduce further.
