Monsoon 2016: Bihar witnessed good rainfall, more to follow

July 17, 2016 11:10 AM |

Rain in Bihar

Since the last 48 hours, Bihar has received heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places. These rainfall activities can be attributed to axis of Monsoon trough which is at present passing through Bihar via Patna and Bhagalpur.

Since the beginning of Monsoon, the rainfall was not very impressive over East India including Bihar. That is why as on July 16, Bihar is still deficient by 20%. But the heavy spell during last 24 hours are expected to decrease the rain deficiency over the state, as places like Forbesganj recorded 72 mm, Gaya recorded 64 mm, Patna 15 mm, Purnea 77 mm, Supaul 43 mm and Chhapra 27 mm of rainfall.

Now we expect that the axis of Monsoon trough will continue to pass through Bihar for at least next 48 hours. There may be slight fluctuation towards north or south but this trough will continue to give moderate to heavy rain and extremely heavy spells at one or two places over Bihar.

On and off good rains is expected to continue July 21, thereafter rain intensity may decrease. But by end of this spell we think that rain figures will turn into positive for the state of Bihar.
