Monsoon around the corner in Mumbai

June 9, 2016 5:13 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The anxious wait for the Monsoon and Mumbai rains of every Mumbaikar is going to come to an end pretty soon. Monsoon 2016 has made onset over Kerala and it is gradually moving upwards, chasing other states along the West Coast namely Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Heavy showers are going on all along the West Coast. Mumbai is also receiving on and off rains as very light passing showers. However, the real Mumbai Monsoon rains will begin only after June 11. We cannot rule out light rains even in the next few days but the intensity will increase gradually. Thus, Monsoon 2016 is not for far behind.

The oppressive heat and humidity or the sultry weather in Mumbai has been eagerly waiting for the first signs of Monsoon. The financial capital city of India, Mumbai, has been reeling under the dry weather since past one month.

Barring one or two odd occasions, Mumbai has not received any rainfall this June. The Colaba weather station has recorded just 0.2 mm of rain so far, while Santa Cruz received nil rainfall against the monthly normal of 523.1 mm.

However, heavy rain pounding parts of Kerala and Karnataka in last two days is surely giving signs that Southwest Monsoon is drawing closer to Mumbai.
