Modi’s Raipur rally cancelled as strong winds bring down pandal

As reiterated by Skymet, some areas of Chhattisgarh including the state capital Raipur observed thunderstorm activity on Friday. The thunderstorm was accompanied with strong winds that pulled down a dome-shaped pandal built for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in the city.

According to a police official, the pandal was being erected when the weather became harsh and strong winds caused the structure to collapse. About 50 people that include workers and security personnel have been injured in the incident.

In view of the incident, Modi’s rally in Naya Raipur has been cancelled. Other than holding a massive rally, the Prime Minister was also supposed to inaugurate an Indian Institute of Technology campus in the city and lay the foundation stone of construction of affordable housing.

Meanwhile, Modi’s plan has changed and he will now fly to Dantewada – a naxal affected area – to take stock of development work being taken up in the region. Modi will undertake a road journey of about 22 km during his visit to the place. keeping in view the highly sensitive area, heavy security has been deployed in Dantewada. According to media reports, a 17 layer security cover has been prepared for Modi.
