Weather in Maharashtra

As predicted by Skymet, the rainfall activities have reduced in parts of Maharashtra and only moderate showers were recorded in Vidarbha during the last 24 hours. Similarly, Monsoon rains have reduced by a great extent in parts of Marathwada.

On the contrary, there has been absolutely no change in the intensity of rain in Konkan and Goa. Heavy rains continued to be observed in Dahanu and its adjoining areas. The southern districts of Madhya Maharashtra such as Sangli, Satara, and Kolhapur too have witnessed heavy Monsoon showers, in a span of just 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Mahabaleshwar has recorded 202 mm of rainfall, followed by Dahanu 53 mm, Kolhapur 46 mm, Satara 44 mm, Matheran 31 mm, Ratnagiri 30 mm, Sangli 19 mm and Alibag 17 mm.

According to our meteorologists, the offshore Trough has weakened now, but strong westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are continuing in Konkan and Goa. Thus, we expect moderate rains with a few heavy spells to continue over South Konkan and Goa for some more time. However, we do not expect heavy to very heavy rains to revisit Mumbai anytime soon.

Although localised thundershowers or rain may continue until August 4 in Mumbai and its suburbs, normal day to day life will not be disrupted. And we expect the weather to go almost dry August 5 onward.

Talking about Pune, the city has been experiencing good rains since the last one week. But, now the intensity will go down and only isolated activities may continue. Another good spell is likely around August 4 and during that time moderate showers with isolated heavy spells may lash the city.

Meanwhile, rains will continue with reduced intensity over Vidarbha and Marathwada until August 2. From August 3, rains will intensify once again and moderate rains with isolated heavy spells may return. By this time, the intensity will increase further over Konkan and Goa and places such as Raigad, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri may get to see heavy showers.
