Moderate To Heavy Rains Over Kerala Till Weekend

South Peninsula continue to be weather active pocket amidst significant drop from plains of most other parts of the country.  Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu have been the weather sensitive region contributing to the pre monsoon rainfall. More showers, intense and fairy widespread, are likely over these parts in the next 4-5 days. 

Apart from Coastal Karnataka, state of Kerala has been the least rainiest during the pre monsoon so far. While many other sub divisions have observed large excess rainfall, Kerala & Mahe have recorded a shortfall of 13%  between 01st March and 09th May 2023.  As a routine, pre monsoon thundershowers over Kerala are suppose to be the heaviest along the West Coast. 

Wind discontinuity extends from Telangana to South Tamil Nadu in the close proximity of interiors of Kerala.  Also, the brewing cyclone in the Bay of Bengal will influence the wind flow over Peninsular India, as it come closer over the next 2-3 days. 

Moderate showers are likely over most parts of Kerala in the next 4-5 days. Spread and intensity will be more over the next 3 days between 09th and 11th May. Isolated places can expect heavy thunderstorm as well.  Prominent places like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Idukki, Kannur and Mahe will be at risk of having lightning and thunderstorm accompanied with strong winds. Most of this weather activity will happen during evening and night hours.
