The state of Odisha and Chhattisgarh have been receiving light to moderate rains for the last many days. In fact, the intensity of rains is higher over the coastal parts of Odisha in comparison with its interior regions.  However, scattered showers have occurred over the state of Chhattisgarh.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Friday, Gopalpur recorded 17 mm of rains, Baripada 12 mm, Paradip 5 mm, Pendra 4 mm, Koraput 3 mm, Bhawanipatna 3 mm, and Jharsuguda witnessed 2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation in the upper air persist over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha coast. A cyclonic circulation also lies over West Bengal and adjoining Bihar. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough can be seen passing through North Bihar to the northeast Bay of Bengal across West Bengal.

This trough is expected to shift further southwards and the cyclonic circulation is expected to form over West Bengal. Thus, rains would intensify over Odisha and Chhattisgarh mainly over the northern parts.

Thus, moderate rains are likely at many places with chances of few heavy spells over both the areas. The coastal stations of Odisha may receive mainly light rains including the southern parts of Chhattisgarh that may witness some light spells.
