After receiving a whopping 181 mm of rain in the last 24 hours from Sunday 8:30 am till 8:30 am Monday, the commercial capital Mumbai is expected to receive another 195 mm of rain. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will receive 80 mm, 70 mm and 45 mm of rain respectively
Water logging at many places will affect traffic movement and long jams will continue to be witnessed across the city during the next three days.
Monsoon rains in Mumbai during June usually occur in evening hours and hinder road traffic with commuters facing inconvenience going back home. So it is advisable to board Mumbai locals than take road transport when it rains in the range of 35 to 65 mm as this leads to waterlogging everywhere.
But if the rain is less than 35 mm then commuters could opt for road transport.
With the advent of monsoon, about 500 mm of rain is expected in the month of June. The average rainfall for the city for the month is 523 mm. The month has 14.5 rainy days as an average.
Monsoon was one of the weakest last year in a decade as only 298.5 mm of rain occurred in Mumbai during the month of June. The year 2008 remains the wettest in the last 10 years when the city was lashed with over 800 mm of rain during the same month.
