Active Monsoon surge would bring moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities in Mahabaleshwar, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, and Gondia during the next 24 hours.

As predicted by Skymet Weather, monsoon rains have significantly increased over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa in the last two days.

The meteorological divisions of Vidarbha and Marathwada have received light to moderate rains during the last 24 hours. Pune and Mumbai, in particular, have recorded heavy rain and thundershowers within the same time frame.

According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Matheran has recorded 108 mm of rainfall, followed by Ratnagiri 99 mm, Pune 87 mm, Colaba (Mumbai) 67 mm, Kolhapur 64 mm, Mahabaleshwar 53 mm, Satara 47 mm, Harnai 38 mm, Chandrapur 31 mm and Alibag 30 mm, in a span 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

At present, a Cyclonic Circulation is over South Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining South Konkan and Goa. A Trough is extending up to South Gujarat from this system.

The combined effect of these two along with active Monsoon surge would bring more heavy rains over Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra today.

City-wise, Mahabaleshwar, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, and Gondia may record moderate to heavy rain during the next 24 hours.

By tomorrow, the rainfall activities would start reducing, but North Madhya Maharashtra, parts of Konkan and Goa as well as some parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada would continue to record moderate showers with isolated heavy spells for some more time.

A further reduction in the rain is likely from September 27, wherein only scattered light rains with one or two moderate would continue in Vidarbha and parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Rest all places would observe rains with a reduced intensity only.

Mumbai rains will reduce by tomorrow evening. Until then, there may be a few moderate showers with one or two intense spells over the city and suburbs.

September 28 onward, the rainfall activities would get confined only to parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada, while Monsoon would go subdued over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa by this time.
