Active Southwest Monsoon has given good rains in Konkan and Goa as well as in Madhya Maharashtra during the last 24 hours. While normal Monsoon conditions continued over parts of Vidarbha. On the contrary, Monsoon remained subdued in the meteorological division of Marathwada and has given light rain with one or two moderate spells only.
According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Mahabaleshwar has recorded 273 mm of rainfall (rainiest place in the country today), followed by Matheran 104 mm and Satara 44 mm, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday.
Meanwhile, parts of Mumbai observed good showers to the tune of 43 mm over Santa Cruz, while 21 mm over Colaba. As these showers were mostly intermittent with short breathers in between, no major water-logging or traffic jam was reported.
Meanwhile, decent rainfall activities were recorded in Madhya Maharashtra, wherein Kolhapur received 29 mm rains, while Pune observed good showers to the tune of 19 mm.
According to our meteorologists, moderate rains will continue in Vidarbha today as well, while rains will now increase over Marathwada during the next 24 hours.
The northern districts of Madhya Maharashtra such as Jalgaon, Malegaon, Ahmednagar, and Nashik will get to see rains of mainly moderate in intensity. However, one or two heavy spells cannot be ruled out.
Talking about Pune, moderate showers have been lashing the city lately and we expect a similar weather condition to continue until August 4. Thereafter, rains may intensify even further.
Meanwhile, Monsoon showers will be moderate to heavy in nature over South Konkan and Goa as well as in adjoining districts of Madhya Maharashtra. And we expect enhanced rainfall activities over North Konkan and Goa including Mumbai, Thane, and Dahanu around August 4. There is also a possibility of one or two intense and heavy spells, during that time.
