Maharashtra has been witnessing fairly widespread moderate showers along with a few sharp spells at one or two places from past few days now. In fact in last 24 hours, few regions of the state even witnessed a three digit rainfall as well.
Weather ofMaharashtrais affected by back to back successive weather systems prevailing over the region that travelled from Bay of Bengal to north Konkan and Goa includingGujaratacross Maharashtra.
Rainfall recorded in last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday is displayed in the table given below:
An upper air cyclonic circulation is extending up to west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gujarat region including North Madhya Maharashtra. In the wake of both these weather systems, Maharashtra has managed to witness good rains including recording a three digit rainfall as well.
Furthermore, a trough from this system is also extending up to west central Bay of Bengal. Therefore, moderate to heavy rain is likely to continue over northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra as well as coastal Maharashtra.
However, scattered light to moderate showers are expected over rest parts of the state. Moreover, a fresh cyclonic circulation over west central Bay of Bengal offAndhra Pradeshcoast will start moving inland thereby increasing the rainfall activities over Vidarbha and Marathwada.
At present, Marathwada is witnessing a rain surplus of 9%, Vidarbha 4%, Madhya Maharashtra 12% and Konkan and Goa 14%. Hence, all the regions of the state are observing more rains than their normal.
Moreover, on and off rains are likely to continue throughout the Southwest Monsoon period enhancing the rainfall statistics significantly.
