Moderate showers on cards for Rajasthan

August 3, 2016 1:57 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Most parts of East and Central Rajasthan have been observing moderate rains for the last 24 hours. However, the northwest region of the state is still witnessing dry weather conditions.

The reason for these sharp spells over most parts of the state can be attributed to two cyclonic circulations, one that persists over northwest Rajasthan and another over Gujarat region.

Additionally, a trough extending via Bikaner towards Madhya Pradesh can also be considered a factor for these moderate showers over the state.

The table below shows that most parts of the state have received moderate showers in a span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday:

As per Skymet Weather, widespread moderate to heavy showers with extremely heavy at a few places are expected to occur over parts of South and Southeast Rajasthan, during next 48 hours. Till now, West Rajasthan has not received any major rainfall activity. However, good rains are likely over West and Southwest regions of the state within another 2-3 days.

At present, East Rajasthan is rain surplus by 39 percent, on the contrary West Rajasthan has received 11 percent less rains than its normal. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over Jhalawar, Kota, Chittorgarh, Udaipur Dungarpur, Rajsamand and Banswara. While, moderate showers may occur over Jaisalmer, Barmer, Nagore and Jalore.

These rains are expected to further reduce the rain deficiency of West Rajasthan. Moreover, this spell of rain will add to the rain surplus status of East Rajasthan.
