At present, the state of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is rain deficient by 20%, whereas Gangetic West Bengal is rain deficient 22. In fact, as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal has been getting moderate rains, but normal rainfall of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is much higher than Gangetic West Bengal that is why it is rain deficient.

Moderate showers with one or two heavy spells occurred over many parts of the state, during the last 24 hours. In fact, Diamond Harbour recorded very heavy rain to the tune of 170 mm.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Kolkata recorded 77.5 mm of rain, followed by Darjeeling 64 mm, Krishnagar 49.8 mm, Malda 28 mm, Digha 14.4 mm, Bankura 11 mm, Asansol 10.2 mm, Baharampur 8 mm, Jalpaiguri 4.9 mm, Burdwan 3.6 mm and Coochbehar 1.6 mm.
Now also we expect these scattered rains to continue over the state for another 2-3 days and we expect rains to increase from July 27 onwards. But from July 28, moderate showers to commence.
The increase in rain activities will be due to the northward shifting of eastern end of axis of Monsoon trough.
Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is also expected to form over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during that time. By the end of the month we expect rain deficiency of state to come down.
