Delhi/NCR received moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours.  Base observatory, Safdarjung and Meteorological Office Lodhi Road, both recorded 16mm rainfall each. The airport observatory measured 9 mm of rainfall during this period. Most other observatories in the Delhi area recorded rainfall between 10 and 15mm. On the outskirts of Delhi/NCR, there was heavy rainfall over West Uttar Pradesh.  Aligarh and Moradabad recorded 105mm and 77mm of rainfall respectively.

The depression over Madhya Pradesh moved northwestward and is now positioned over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and Southwest Uttar Pradesh. The system is placed in the close vicinity of Delhi. The depression is likely to recurve northeastward, away from the national capital, towards West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The heavy rainfall belt will also shift along with the system.

With the fresh track of the system, the monsoon trough will also be dragged northward, at the friction level between 3,000 and 5,000 feet. The proximity of rugged terrain will weaken the depression rapidly to a low-pressure area, in the next 24 hours. Even, the cyclonic circulation of the system will become less marked during this period. Looks like, the weather system is likely to break up over the hills of Uttarakhand and the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh.

With the trough moving north of Delhi first and shifting further away in the hills, the weather activity is likely to mellow down over the national capital and suburbs. The rainfall will be light to moderate spells today and relaxing further tomorrow. The weekend is expected to remain trouble-free, on account of rain. The start of next week also will be on a dry note and rains, if any, will catch up on or after 18th September.
