Moderate showers ahead for Pune, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Harnai

During the last 24 hours, widespread rains have been witnessed over most parts of Maharashtra including coastal regions, South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Besides this, light rains were also seen at a few places over North Madhya Maharashtra.

In contrast, several districts of the state were reeling under very warm and dry weather conditions. However, now, the rains have commenced thus making the weather pleasant and cool all over the state.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Gondia recorded moderate rainfall of 63.4 mm, Satara 46.3 mm, Mahabaleshwar 40 mm, Sangli 25.2 mm, Kolhapur 22.4 mm, Bhira 20 mm, Jeur 15 mm, Thane 12 mm, Alibag 9 mm, Wardha 6 mm, Chandrapur 4 mm, Dahanu 3.6 mm, Mumbai and Ratnagiri 3 mm, Ahmednagar 2.4 mm, Pune 2.2 mm, Nashik and Yeotmal 2 mm and Solapur 1 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen persisting over Telangana and adjoining area. Further, it is likely to move towards north.

Also, a trough is seen extending from this system up to east central Arabian Sea. Another trough is seen extending from South Konkan up to Kerala Coast.

Due to the effect of these prevailing weather systems over the state, the rainfall activity is likely to continue along the coastal parts of the state, South Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada region.

With this, moderate rains with isolated heavy showers are expected to occur over these regions during the next 24 to 48 hours. Moreover, Vidarbha and adjoining areas are likely to witness light to moderate rains during the similar time frame.

On the other hand, extreme northern parts of Maharashtra will continue to receive scattered light rains only. Meanwhile, Mumbai and suburb areas will witness good rains during the next 24 hours.

Places such as Pune, Parbhani, Vengurla, Sangli, Harnai, Ratnagiri, Solapur, Bhira, Bheed, KolhapurAurangabad, Osmanabad, Satara will witness moderate rains with isolated heavy showers during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Further, maximums are expected to remain around 30-33 degree Celsius. The minimums will be settling around 21-24 degree Celsius. Hence, pleasant weather conditions are likely to persist over most parts of Maharashtra.

As on October 6, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Marathwada, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are all rain deficient by 91%, 67% 37% and 74%, respectively.
