After the heavy rain spell during last weekend, the residents of Odisha did see decreasing trend in the rainfall activity over the state. Last week there were multiple weather systems affecting the eastern state but on the contrary this time, there is one.
At present, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Andhra Pradesh coast. This weather system is extending up to 3.1kms is weakening, and chances of this becoming insignificant are more. Another trough is likely to form from Bihar to Telangana across Odisha. This weather system is likely to give good rainfall over the state.
This rainfall activity is expected to continue over most parts of the state during next 24 to 48 hours.
In the last 24 hours, the state has received mainly light rainfall with isolated places receiving moderate spells. The coastal station has observed squally winds and thundershower activity.
The state of Odisha has received 756.5 mm rain during the entire Monsoon season starting from June 1, 2016. The normal rainfall that the state usually receives till August 30 is 905.6 mm. That means the state of Odisha is rainfall deficient by 16%.
