After a long gap, Monsoon rains have finally returned to Tamil Nadu. During the last 24 hours, many districts of Tamil Nadu have received light to moderate rains with few heavy spells at one or two places. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday,

At present also, weather conditions remain favourable for scattered rains to continue over many parts of coastal and interior Tamil Nadu. However, the intensity of these rains will be comparatively less over northern districts of the state.

Chennai does not stand a chance of any significant rainy spell and might have to settle with isolated very light rains only.

As per weathermen, these rains are result of easterly winds gaining strength over Tamil Nadu during the last 24 hours. However, these easterly waves are expected to become weak now, thereby decreasing pace of rains for some time.

We can expect these humid winds gaining strength around December 4 again and thus, bringing good rains back to many parts of Tamil Nadu around December 4 and 5. During that time, even the northern districts of state including Chennai  will experience good rains.

Northeast Monsoon spans from October to December, with November being the rainiest month for Tamil Nadu.  This year, rains have performed below average in the month of October, but later picked a good pace during November.

As a result, many parts of Tamil Nadu have received good rains in November. These rains have also resulted significant improvement in rain deficiency. Consequently, as on November 28, the rainfall deficiency for the state stands at only 12%.

Further, the ongoing rains would not make much difference to the rain deficiency and we do not expect a major change in rain deficiency till next week.
