During the last few days, Jharkhand has been witnessing good rains. In fact, many parts of the state also recorded light to moderate rains with isolated heavy spells.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Jamshedpur recorded 58 mm of rainfall, followed by Ranchi 18 mm, Dumka 18 mm, Bokaro 15 mm and Chaibasa 5 mm.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the eastern end of axis of Monsoon trough that is sinking southwards across Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Weathermen expect the axis of Monsoon trough to continue over the area for at least next two days. Also, a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over Odisha Coast in the next 24 hours.

With the combined effect of these weather systems, good rains will continue over many parts of Jharkhand like Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanwad and Hazaribagh for the next 48 hours. Thereafter the intensity of rains will lessen and the rain belt is likely to shift towards the west.

Parts of south and Central Chhattisgarh like Pendra, Raipur and Durg also observed scattered light rains in the last 24 hours.

As a cyclonic circulation is expected over Odisha which will shift towards the east and across Chhattisgarh, therefore we expect fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over the state around August 16 to 18. Places like Raipur, Jagdalpur, Durg and Bilaspur may receive good rains during this period.

Thereafter, rains will reduce over Chhattisgarh however, scattered rains will continue.
