Moderate rains continue to flirt with Chennai

With the Monsoon almost on the verge of bidding farewell to the country, the southern state of Tamil Nadu is still experiencing light showers. At present the state of Tamil Nadu is rainfall deficient by 12% and it is likely that the figures may not change drastically in the recent future.

The cyclonic circulation in the west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining areas will be sticking there for the time being. And due its presence, a trough from this system is extending along the East Coast to North Tamil Nadu.

As far as the weather is concerned cloudy weather with the chances of light rain may happen in parts of North Tamil Nadu including Chennai during the next few days. Some areas in North Tamil Nadu may receive isolated moderate spells.

Due to the presence of this system in the region, in the last 24 hours Chennai has received light rain of 1.7 mm. And in the coming days, the region may witness some increased activity but heavy Monsoon-like rains will be missing from the state.

From the start of the Monsoon season, i.e. from June 1 till date, the state of Tamil Nadu has received 239.9 mm of average rainfall. In comparison, the state’s normal average rainfall stands at 273.3 mm of rainfall.
