As predicted by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, heavy and widespread rain has covered parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in last 24 hours. The trough of low pressure area that has been giving scanty rainfall over peninsular India in last few days has now given moderate rainfall of the areas.
In Kerala, the areas to have received rain in last 24 hours are Kannur with 5.6 mm of rain, Kottayam – 22 mm, Kozhikode – 24 mm and Thiruvanathapuram 6 mm of rain. In Tamil Nadu heavy rain lashed several places that includes Coonoor with whopping 123 mm of rain, Kodaikanal – 31.5 mm and Palayankottai with 5.2 mm of rain.
Day temperatures in these regions, as expected, have seen a significant drop by 3-5°C. As rain intensifies, the drop is expected to increase further.
The trough over Lakshadweep and Kerala, will continue to affect the region and adjoining areas, for the next 24 to 48 hours. Whereas the weak low pressure area along the coast of Tamil Nadu will become insignificant after a period of 24 hours.
