Updated on Aug 2, 11:32 AM: Light rain for another 24 hours in West Bengal
The active Southwest Monsoon over parts of Odisha and West Bengal has given fairly widespread rain over these two states. In last 24 hours, moderate rain has been observed over several areas of West Bengal.
While heavy rain was observed from 8.30 am on Sunday till 8.30 am on Monday, rain intensity reduced in last 24 hours. For instance, Diamond Harbour that observed three digit rainfall on first day of the new month, i.e. August, just received 20 mm of rain in last 24 hours.
However, isolated places in West Bengal have received heavy rain in same span. Canning has received 130 mm of rain in last 24 hours.
According to Skymet Weather, rain intensity is expected to remain subdued over West Bengal for next 24 hours as the low-pressure area marked over North Bay of Bengal is likely to move closer to Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Published on August 1: Parts of West Bengal have witnessed moderate to heavy showers in last 24 hours. In fact, a three digit rainfall had also been observed in Diamond Harbour.
The reason for these hefty showers can be attributed to a low-pressure area which has developed over North Bay of Bengal. Axis of Monsoon trough that is passing through Gangetic West Bengal can also be considered one of the factors for these rainy spells.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, following stations of West Bengal have received good rains:
Since last 2-3 days, Sub-Himalayan and central parts of West Bengal have been receiving lesser rains. Because of the development of a low-pressure area that has decreased the moisture incursion over northern parts of the state, these regions are likely to continue receiving subdued rainfall.
This low-pressure area is expected to move in a westerly direction towards North Odisha during next 48 hours. However, Gangetic West Bengal may receive light to moderate rainfall but a few sharp spells over these areas cannot be ruled out.
Other parts of the state will receive subdued rainfall activities. At present, Gangetic West Bengal has received 11 percent lesser rains than its normal. On the contrary, rain for Sub Himalayan West Bengal stands at 16 percent more than its normal.
Due to possibility of rains for another two to three days, it can be said that the rain deficiency of Gangetic West Bengal may reduce however not much changes are expected over the rest part of the state.
