Moderate rain to continue in Jammu and Kashmir

Rain in JKOctober in Jammu and Kashmir brings occasional rain with mainly dry weather. Half of October has almost ended and the hilly state did not receive any significant rain till now. However, owning to a Western Disturbance, several parts of Jammu and Kashmir received widespread heavy rainfall in last 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rain is likely to continue for another 24 hours with a possible spillover of rain into Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In last 24 hours, several places in the hilly state of Jammu and Kashmir that received rain includes Srinagar with 13 mm of rain, Banihal 20.7 mm of rain, Gulmarg 27.2 mm, Kupwara 37.2 mm and Pahalgam 23.6 mm of rain.

The rain belt is likely to shift towards parts of plains of North India, mainly Punjab and Chandigarh, and adjoining areas of Haryana. However, the intensity of rain over Punjab will be less as compared to the hilly regions. The weather system is likely to affect the weather in these regions after 24 hours.

According to Skymet, as the effect of this weather system dies out by 22nd October, another Western Disturbance is likely to approach the hills of Jammu and Kashmir around October 24. The weather is likely to be influenced and light to moderate rain is expected in the hilly state between October 24- October 25.
