Rain for another 48 hours in Punjab, rain deficiency comes down

Light to moderate Monsoon rain has blessed Punjab in last few days owing to which the rain deficiency of 25% has come down drastically. As reiterated by Skymet Weather earlier, these light rains will continue in the state until the end of this month.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Bhatinda observed heavy rainfall of 68.4 mm seconded by Amritsar that witnessed moderate showers of 9.7 mm. On the other hand, very light rainy spells of 0.6 mm and 0.3 mm were observed in Ludhiana and Patiala respectively.

These rains over the state are due to a Western Disturbance that is persisting over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir. However, this system is expected to shift north-eastwards. Moreover, the cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan is seen in the lower level.

Due to interaction of both these weather systems, Punjab managed to witness rains in varied densities. From light and moderate rainy spells to heavy downpour, rains have finally blessed Punjab.

Further, rains are likely to keep blessing the state for another 48 hours. Though the main rain belt is likely to move eastwards but most parts of the state are expected to witness light to moderate rainy spells.

Punjab at present is witnessing a rainfall deficiency of 17 percent. The subdued rain activity in next 48 hours may curtail the prevailing rainfall deficiency of the state.
