Highly rain deficit state in Northwest India, Punjab, is slated to receive good Monsoon showers in next few hours. The rainfall activity that is expected to begin in next few hours and likely to last till next couple of days will also push down rain deficiency of 25%, marginally.

Multiple weather systems are responsible for this rainy activity. A low pressure area is over northwest MP and adjoining Rajasthan and a cyclonic circulation is over north central parts of Pakistan.

A trough is extending between these two weather systems across Punjab and south easterly winds are also increasing moisture over Punjab area that is why intense thundery clouds have developed over many districts of Punjab.

These thundery clouds are likely to give moderate rain at many places with one or two heavy spells of thundershowers.

Even though this rainy spell will last for a short duration, yet it will give good amount of rains over several areas of Punjab.

Since last many days only Chandigarh and Amritsar have been receiving some rain while other areas remained dry. However, rain in next few hours is expected to be widespread in nature.

According to Skymet Weather, rain and thundershower are expected over Sirsa, Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fazilka, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Moga, Muktsar, Nawan Shehar, Pathankot, Rupnagar and Taran during next 2 to 4 hours.

Scattered rain is most likely to last till the end of August, helping in bringing down the rain deficiency to an extent.
