Moderate intensity earthquakes reported in Indonesia

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale was reported from Northern Indonesia at 11:59 am, today. The epicenter of the quake was found to be at Sinabang, a town on the east coast of Simeulue Island near western coast of Sumatra. The earthquake had a depth of 40 km. No damage to life or property has been reported yet.

The town had witnessed widespread destruction by an earthquake on 28th March 2005. The land had risen to 40 cm at Sinabang due to the quake.

Meanwhile, another earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale was reported from Saulaki near the Banda Sea at around 6:56 am (IST) and had a depth of 20 km. No Tsunami warning has been issued post these earthquakes. Five seismic activities were observed in Indonesia during October.
