A moderate intensity earthquake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook Tajiskistan on Tuesday. The quake occurred at 10.33 am (IST) and had a depth of 143 km. The quake also jolted Northwest Pakistan, causing panic among people. Peshawar, Malakand and Swat in Khyber-Pakhtunwa were the places where the tremors were felt the most. There haven’t been reports of casualties or damage to property in the region so far.
Pakistan falls under the high seismic zone category and has therefore borne the brunt of nature’s fury several times in recent years. In September 2013, a massive earthquake had hit the Balochistan province of Pakistan, in which about 400 people had lost their lives.
