Minimums to play see saw over Mumbai

The maximum city, Mumbai has been witnessing below normal temperatures since a few days now. While rains have completely taken a backseat over the city of dreams, it is the nights which have been slightly on the cooler side.

In fact, the city recorded its minimum at 15.2 degrees on December 21 which happens to be three degrees below the normal levels. So much so that the minimums remained between 15 and 16 degrees until December 25.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the light winds which were blowing over the region. Along with this, as the temperatures dropped, formation of mist and haze also took place during the morning hours which also caused some increase in the pollution levels.

Usually sea breeze increases the moisture during the late afternoon hours. Whenever, cool winds from northeast start blowing, temperatures reduce and cause the formation of mist or shallow fog. The pollutants such as dust and smoke particles get deposited leading to increase in pollution.

Now, the winds have once again changed and southeasterly winds are blowing which is why temperatures will increase once again. In fact, the minimum today settled at 18.6 degrees. These conditions will persist for another 48 hours.

Thereafter, minimums will once again witness a drop around December 29 as winds will change direction and become northeasterly in nature. Thus, residents can expect the night of New Year’s Eve to be on the cooler side.
