The temperatures of Gujarat and Rajasthan have been playing see-saw. While Gujarat has been witnessing an elongated and extended dry and warm spell, parts of Rajasthan has been observing cold day and cold wave conditions
However, both the states witnessed an increase in the minimum temperatures a day before. This was basically due to the persistent partly cloudy sky. Meanwhile, looking at the last 24 hours’ temperature trend, the minimum temperatures fell by a few notches.
The northerly components of the winds and clear sky were responsible for this sudden drop in the minimum temperatures.

As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, the temperatures across both the states will once again witness a rise. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayan region by January 17. As this Western Disturbance will induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan, change in the wind direction will take place.

Therefore, with the approach of this weather system, the prevailing dry and cool northwesterly winds will get swapped by warm and humid south westerlies. Because of this wind reversal, the minimum temperature may witness a rise by two to three degrees.
This rise in the temperature profile will further help in subsiding the cold wave conditions that were prevailing at isolated places of North Rajasthan. After the passage of the Western Disturbance, the winds will once again change their course resulting in the temperatures to drop again.
