Delhi that had been seeing single digit minimums throughout the month of December has finally seen minimums increase to double-digit. The Safdarjung observatory recorded the minimum today at 10.4 degrees Celsius, which is 7 degrees above normal. Before this, the only time Delhi saw minimums in double digit was on December 14.
The rise in minimums has been attributed to the presence of Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas. However, after the Western Disturbance clears the area by today evening, temperatures will once again observe a sharp dip.
Moreover, the cold air from Western Himalayas will sweep through the plains of North India due to snowfall in many locations in Jammu and Kashmir.
No rains are expected over Delhi and the NCR and by tomorrow itself, minimums may see a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius, dropping to 7.5-8 degrees. Thereafter, there is expected to be continuous decline of minimum temperatures which will further more amount to cold wave conditions in the first week of January itself when temperatures may drop to below 5 degrees Celsius.
These cold wave conditions will persist for at least the first week of January resulting in chilly and biting cold
