As reiterated by Skymet Weather, this steep drop in the mercury can be attributed to the return of northeasterly/easterly winds. Flow of these winds was blocked by the passage of fresh Western Disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation over Northwest India. As both the systems became insignificant, these cool winds once again commenced over the region.
Along with the minimums, the maximum temperatures also dropped significantly during last 48 hours. At present, the maximums are also hovering below normal by 2 to 4 degrees over Vidarbha, Konkan and North Madhya Maharashtra.
However, the day temperatures would rise by 1 to 3 degrees tomorrow onward. Dry weather would continue with sunny sky. In fact, Mumbai and Pune that also witnessed fall in day temperatures, are anticipated to register upward trend in maximums now.
Gradual rise in minimums is expected 48 hours onwards.
