Colder and drier northerly winds from the Western Himalayan region will once again start affecting the weather in the national capital Delhi for the next two to three days. Under the influence of these winds, night temperatures in Delhi are expected to drop by about 2 degrees. Delhi recorded a minimum of 5 degrees on Thursday. The average minimum temperature for the month of January recorded in Delhi in the last ten years is 7.3 degrees.

Last year, on January 6, the minimum temperature in Delhi had dropped to 1.9 degrees, which was the lowest ever recorded in 44 years. The coming few days (till the 7th of January) would observe similar temperatures. Thereafter, a Western Disturbance expected in Jammu & Kashmir may rise to the rescue by marginally increasing the temperatures in Delhi and North India.

Meanwhile, day temperatures in Delhi are likely to rise and settle around the average. On Wednesday, the first day of the new year, the maximum temperature was recorded at 18 degrees, which is two notches below the average. Persistent clouding last week has led to maximums settling below the normal.

Decrease in humidity levels may increase the dryness in the air. The average day (maximum) temperature recorded during the month of January in Delhi in the last ten years is 21.1 degrees.
