Finally, Delhi's temperature dipped below the normal threshold today morning. This is for the first time in this season. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a minimum of 11.2°C, about 1°C below normal. Mercury has plunged about 5°C over the last two days. The month had earlier started with a low of 18.4°C on 01st Nov and had a fall of over 7°C till today. The mercury is expected to hold the current mark for the next 2 days and a marginal rise, thereafter.

The feeble Western Disturbance as an upper air trough will move across the extreme northern parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh between 23rd and 25th Nov. As it usually happens with the approach of the system, the temperature may rise marginally by 1°-2°C over the weekend. No other impact is likely in terms of clouding and rainfall. Dry weather conditions will prevail in the remaining days of the month.

More or less every year, the minimum temperature in November drops to under 10°C in Delhi. As per the five-day averages, the month starts with a low of 15°-16°C and finishes at 10°-11°C. Since 2007, the lowest temperature in November was 6.3°C recorded on 23 Nov 2020. The lowest ever temperature of 2.9°C was registered on 28Nov1938. This year the mercury may barely reach the threshold of 9°C.

There is no sharp drop in minimum temperature expected over Delhi. The cold sweep is mostly triggered by a good spell of snow in the mountains. There is no likelihood of any strong and active Western Disturbance covering the hilltops with a thick layer of snow, during this month. In any case, these are still the early days. Only, the seasonal progression of mercury may take it close to 10°C around fag end of the month.
