Mercury levels have sharply risen over and around the national capital. The minimum temperature, after staying between 9°C and 10°C, for the last week, has stepped up to the low teens, for the second time this month. The morning temperature today, was 13.3°C, as recorded at Safdarjung observatory. Still, the minimum is about 1°C below the normal. The day temperature also jumped by about 4°C from last week's mark, to register 28.4°C, which is normal around this time. These temperatures will keep seesawing during the week, albeit with small margins.
Western disturbance is marked over Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining areas. However, the weather activity will remain confined to the hills only. The system will clear the region in about 24 hours. But, the remnant effect will remain till tomorrow. And, another western disturbance, nearly overlapping with the previous one, will arrive on 12th March. This time, the spread and intensity of the weather will be more, relative. Some rain and thundershowers will spill over to the foothills and plains of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, on 13th March. The national capital seems to be on the far fringes of this weather system. Scattered clouds are likely to descend over NCR on Wednesday. There is a little chance that some areas may have light and fleeting rain, for small duration.
During the month of March, the western disturbances start shifting their track northward. Weather systems become unstable and therefore, the predictions become difficult. The accuracy also suffers for the borderline areas, like Delhi, this time. Even if it rains, it could just be a sprinkle with a distant flash of lightning. The western disturbance will have a remnant effect over the hills on 14th March and clear the northern parts, the next day. The minimum temperature may drop about 1-2°C over the next 2 days and rise by a similar margin during the subsequent couple of days. The day temperature will remain in the high 20’s and may even touch the 30°C mark for the first time in this season. Earlier, it just shied away from this mark and stayed short at 29.6°C on 01st March. A fair amount of sunshine is expected during the week, with some stray clouds on the 13th and 14th night. No significant precipitation is likely during this period.
