Mercury soars in Gujarat once again

After getting brief respite from high day temperatures during last few days, the mercury is all set to soar in Gujarat once again.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, maximum temperatures are again settling in the high 30s, around 39°C, which is 3 to 4 degrees above normal

Few days back, parts of South Gujarat had witnessed some rain on account of a low pressure area in the Arabian Sea. This activity had led to change in wind pattern over the state and resulted in drop in day temperatures.

The rising trend is expected to continue for next 10 to 15 days, with one or two places recording close to 40°C as the day temperature.

At present, dry and hot northwesterly winds are blowing over the Gujarat region from Sindh and Baluchistan provinces of Pakistan. These hot winds combined with clear skies and bright sunshine are pushing up the day temperatures.

The maximums are likely to remain in the high 30s till October end. Gradually, the temperatures will start decreasing from November onwards as sun will move further south in southern hemisphere towards the Tropic of Capricorn.

The sky will remain almost clear but as the sun rays will start slanting due to the position of the sun, mild winters will set in the western state.

Let us have a look at the maximum temperatures recorded on October 15 and 16.
