After some windy days, mercury has started soaring over Delhi. On March 24, day temperatures witnessed sharp rise, settling above the normal average temperature by a least 5-7 degrees.
Palam Observatory that had recorded 33.6°C on March 23, witnessed day maximum of 38.4°C on March 24. This was seven degrees above normal temperature of 31°C.
Similarly, Safdarjung Observatory also recorded 36.2°C on Thursday, five degrees above normal average.
According to Skymet Weather, the sudden rise in maximum temperatures can be attributed to the change of wind pattern over the region.
Delhi was witnessing strong and cool northwesterly winds from March 20-23, which had kept the day temperatures over the region under check in spite of clear sky.
However wind speed reduced significantly on March 24 in wake of approaching Western Disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.
These systems will lead to reversal of winds pattern from northwesterly to south easterly that led to steep increase in temperatures by 4-5 degrees over the national capital.
Skymet Weather predicts that mercury will continue to soar today as well. Though some high clouds could be seen in the sky but temperatures are expected to reach around 39°C on Friday as well.
However, slight relief is likely over the weekend as we expect partly cloudy to cloudy sky for next 2 days. Some patchy thundershowers along with passing showers are likely towards evening and night of March 26.
This activity will result in drop in temperature by 3-4 degrees and once again day temperatures will reach near normal.
