Mercury soars in Delhi as day maximum crosses 35 degree mark

Summers in DelhiFrom observing record-low maximum temperature of 19°C on March 15, Delhi has now crossed 35 degree mark on Tuesday and still counting. On March 24, Delhi recorded 35.1°C, five degrees above normal average.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, day temperatures have been on a rising spree and may reach 36°C during next 24-48 hours. Day temperatures in city has not surpassed 35°C in the last two years, with 34.4°C in March, 2014 and 34.8°C in March, 2013.

Moreover, the difference between lowest and highest maximum temperature, so far, in March has also increased to 15.5°C this year in comparison to 14°C in 2014. This difference is further expected to rise as we proceed further in the month.

This year, March has witnessed erratic weather conditions during the first half of the month. Three successive Western Disturbances and cyclonic circulations had given good rain in the city and kept the temperatures well below normal. With 86.3 mm of rain recorded already in this month so far, the city has surpassed the all-time high of 78.2 mm, recorded in 1915.

However, city is now witnessing usual weather conditions wherein maximum temperatures are expected to reach 34°C and beyond by the end of March.
