Both, day and night temperatures nose-dived in the national capital. The base station at Safdarjung recorded the day maximum of 23.5°C yesterday and a minimum of 12.3°C today morning. These are the lowest respective seasonal temperatures so far. The day temperature was over 4°C below the normal and the minimum dipped very close to the normal, for the first time in this season. Both, the maximum and minimum have plunged by over 4°C each, from the previous day's mark of 27.2°C and 16.2°C, respectively. The day temperature dropped as the sun nearly remained obscured due to a deep layer of smog, yesterday. Better sky conditions in the night and morning hours, coupled with cool northwesterly flow dipped the minimum temperature, as well.
The day temperature of the low 20s is normally observed towards fag end of November. Day max temperature of 23.5°C, recorded yesterday, is an outlier in the first half of November. While the day temperature is likely to rise to reach about 25°C today, the minimum may hover around the 12°C mark for about the next three days.
The lowest temperatures of 22.9°C in 2015 and 22.0°C in 2019 were recorded on 27th Nov and 28th Nov, respectively. However, the mercury had plunged due to a cold sweep from the northern slopes during these two years. Yesterday, it was courtesy dense envelop of toxic smog, that the temperature rise got restricted.
There is no rainfall likely over Delhi/NCR during this month. A mild westerly trough will influence the extreme higher reaches of northern mountains between 23rd and 25th Nov 2024. It is unlikely to influence weather conditions in and around Delhi. Yes, the further fall of mercury will be arrested. The morning temperatures may once again reach 14°-15°C during that period and drop again at the fag end of the month.
